Wallscourt learners bring ancient Greece to Life

Learners at Wallscourt Farm Academy have been developing their skills as historians while also honing their oracy abilities.

Recently, they debated whether Elm Learning Zone should become part of the Ancient Greek city-state of Athens or Sparta.

The learners expressed strong views on the matter and engaged in the debate with real passion.

Following a week of learning about democracy, the class carried out a democratic vote to determine which state they would join.

The outcome? Sparta!

Jon Miller, Assistant Principal and Year 6 teacher, said: “It’s been incredible to see the children immerse themselves in history and really use their voices to make a decision.

“They’ve shown not just knowledge of Ancient Greece, but also a true understanding of democracy in action.”
