The Academy Day

The main school gate opens at 8.35 a.m. and we ask that you enter by the main gate and leave via the MUGA to allow space for a flow of families into the school grounds. Learning Zone doors open at 8.45 a.m. Learning starts promptly as soon as children are in school and we thank you in advance for being punctual and ensuring your child gets the best possible start to each day of learning. Outer doors and the main gate are locked at 8.50 a.m. so please try to leave promptly to allow this to happen. Please do not enter by the MUGA as children arriving after 8.50 a.m. need to go the Welcome Zone to be recorded as late arrivals.

Each day at Wallscourt Farm Academy starts with a whole school or Home Zone Gathering and children are encouraged to reflect on a wide range of Spiritual moral, social and cultural ideas. Learning flows through the day and at a suitable point during the morning the children in Key Stages 1 and 2 will have a snack and a fresh air break. Children in Oak Learning Zone are following the Early Years curriculum and have access to the outside area throughout the day. Please ensure all children have a bottle of water in school. The Academy provides a piece of fruit for all children in Reception, Year 1 and year 2 through a government funded scheme but children in Years 3 to 6 will need to bring in a piece of fruit from home. Please do not send snacks other than fruit.

During the day, the children will take part in the ‘Daily 5.’ Children will engage in 5 minutes of fun physical activity which might include a 5 minute run, star jumps, an active game or an adult led exercise routine.

The school day ends at 3.15 p.m. and the children can be collected from their Learning Zone garden room door. The teaching team will send children out to you once they have seen that you are there.

Lunchtimes

Lunchtimes are an important part of the day at Wallscourt Farm Academy. The time is organised into two sittings. The children eat in our Community Café where they are served lunch at the table by our Lunchtime Leaders. Children in Year 5 and above go to the serving hatch and collect their food themselves. There are always members of the teaching team eating with the children. All our food is freshly prepared and is healthy and nutritious. A menu is provided so that children know the choices available to them. There is always a vegetarian option and children with dietary requirements or allergies can, in the majority of cases, be catered for. Please click here for a link to the current menu.

Most children at Wallscourt Farm choose to have a school lunch but if your child does bring a packed lunch, please ensure that they have a drink included. Please remember not to include any nut products.

When the children are not eating in the café, they can use the wonderful outside space. We have a Sports Leader who leads sessions in our MUGA and a large garden at the rear of the building where children can access a range of resources from our PlayPod. The PlayPod is resourced by Bristol Scrapstore and includes an exciting selection of loose parts, den making materials, tyres for rolling and building and other open ended resources to stimulate children’s imagination and develop collaborative play. The Gazebo provides space for children to be inside a shelter if they prefer and when the weather is drier the children can use the large playing field. We have a garden area at the front which is used by Key Stage 2.
