Wallscourt pupils celebrate literacy success

Pupils at Wallscourt Farm Academy have been working hard on developing their literacy skills this term through a range of exciting initiatives and creative projects.

The school recently launched its Year 4 Book Club, led by the magnificent Mr McLean, where learners are reading Kevin’s Great Escape, the sequel to a popular Year 3 text.

Alongside this, pupils from around the home zone have been enjoying audiobooks including The Boy at the Back of the Class and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, while also exploring a rich variety of high-quality books and graphic novels.

As part of their writing curriculum, pupils have completed their first Being a Writer enquiry: “How do authors create settings?”

Using the beautifully-illustrated picture book Quest as inspiration, learners crafted descriptive narratives as their final pieces.

To celebrate their learning, pupils worked in trios to practise their oracy skills and eagerly shared their imaginative stories with one another.

A spokesperson at Wallscourt Farm Academy, said: “It has been inspiring to see our pupils so engaged with reading and writing.

“They have shown real creativity in building their own stories and confidence in sharing them aloud.

“Our book club and writing enquiries are helping learners develop a lifelong love of literature, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements.”
