Wallscourt pupils explore artistic expression through charcoal drawing

Year 6 learners at Wallscourt Farm Academy have been developing their artistic skills by exploring the use of shapes and line densities in their drawings.

Inspired by The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy, pupils have been experimenting with different techniques to bring depth and feeling into their artwork.

This week, the children were introduced to charcoal as a new medium, allowing them to create striking effects and greater contrasts in their drawings. The sessions have been hugely popular, with even the less confident artists embracing the opportunity to experiment and proudly taking their creations home to share with their families.

Jon Miller, Assistant Principal and Year 6 Teacher, said: “It has been wonderful to see children immerse themselves in the creative process.

“Using Mackesy’s work as inspiration, they’ve not only developed their technical skills but also their confidence as artists.

“The pride they’ve shown in their work has been fantastic, and it’s been a joy to see them so eager to share their drawings with others.”
